Ivan Dalos’ Aragorn Ami survived a claim of foul from Channing Hill, rider of
runner-up Euphrosyne, after coming in on that rival during the stretch run of
Saturday’s $100,000

Martha Washington
to take her stakes debut in the one-mile race and move her
record to a perfect two-for-two.

Trained by Josie Carroll and ridden by Norberto Arroyo Jr., the bay filly was
sent off the 13-1 seventh choice but ran like a favorite to reward her backers
with a $28.80 win payout.

Euphrosyne tried to lead all the way home from her rail post, setting
fractions of :23 3/5, :49 and 1:14 3/5 while tracked by Aragorn Ami to her
outside. The eventual winner never let up the pressure on her rival, and the two
continued the battle into the lane. Aragorn Ami slowly began inching away from
Euphrosyne to her inside and angled over once passing the pacesetter, who took
up slightly and veered to the outside.

Crossing under the wire in 1:41 1/5 for a mile on the fast track at Oaklawn
Park, Aragorn Ami soon found herself circling in front of the stands as the
stewards considered Hill’s claim of foul for the stretch incident. They
eventually disallowed the objection and Aragorn Ami took up her rightful place
in the winner’s circle.

Euphrosyne was best of the rest, 1 3/4 lengths in front of Ireland, who in
turn had 4 1/2 lengths to spare over Cow Catcher in fourth. Redgrass Cat came
next, with Cheerful Contender, Kiss Moon, Xray Vision, Racing Holiday and Street
Story completing the order of finish.

Aragorn Ami made her racing debut on December 15 at Woodbine, scoring a
three-quarter length victory over that venue’s synthetic Polytrack. With
Saturday’s win the bay daughter of Aragorn now shows $98,034 in career earnings
to go along with her unbeaten mark. She also earned points on the Road to the
Kentucky Oaks series.

Bred in Ontario by Tall Oaks Farm, Aragorn Ami was a $29,290 RNA as a Ontario
September yearling. She is the first registered stakes winner out of the unraced
Victory Gallop mare Galloping Ami, who is herself a daughter of multiple
stakes-placed Secret Ami. Galloping Ami counts as a full sister the
stakes-scoring Victorious Ami, who is the dam of last year’s Grey hero Ami’s
Holiday.
