Group 2 winner Toast of New York will take part in the $16 million Pegasus World Cup (G1) at Gulfstream Park on January 27, Reeves Thoroughbred Racing announced on its Facebook page Friday.
An agreement was reached between owner Al Shaqab Racing and Reeves Thoroughbred Racing, R.A. Hill Stable and Eric Young to point the lightly raced six-year-old to the upcoming 1 1/8-mile affair.
Toast of New York is best known for finishing a nose behind winner Bayern and a neck up on third-placer California Chrome when second in the 2014 Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1). The Jamie Osborne-trained son of Thewayyouare captured that same year’s U.A.E. Derby (UAE-G2) and finished second in the Pacific Classic (G1).
Originally, the Breeders’ Cup Classic was Toast of New York’s final race, as he headed to the breeding shed after suffering a soft tissue injury in 2015.
The Kentucky-bred bay returned to Osborne’s shedrow this season, and recently posted a one-length victory going 1 1/4 miles at Lingfield Park in England on December 6 under jockey Frankie Dettori.
