The 2018 Fasig-Tipton Gulfstream Sale of Selected Two-Year-Olds in Training on Wednesday afternoon saw an increase in average and median over last year, aided by three offerings that brought $1 million or more. A filly by Medaglia d’Oro and a colt by Into Mischief topped the leaderboard, bringing $1.2 million each.
The filly, Hip No. 9, was gaveled down to Stonestreet Stables. From the consignment of Niall Brennan Stables, agent, the April 25 Kentucky-bred had previously sold for $200,000 at Keeneland September.
Out of the stakes-placed Mi Vida, by Distorted Humor, the filly counts as her third dam the multiple Grade 1 winner Dream Supreme, who was herself produced by Grade 1 vixen Spinning Round. Dream Supreme’s offspring includes Grade 1 winner and sire Majestic Warrior.
OXO Equine purchased the Into Mischief colt, Hip 77, from the consignment of Eddie Woods, agent. The February 23 Kentucky-bred previously brought $190,000 at Fasig-Tipton July.
Out of Assets of War, by Lawyer Ron, the colt counts as his second dam the Grade 3-winning Added Asset, a half-sister to Grade 2 scorer Added Gold. Both were produced by Grade 3 heroine Added Elegance. Grade 1 winner Irish Smoke also hails from this family.
Trainer Todd Pletcher, for Coolmore’s M.V. Magnier, was the winning bidder for a Scat Daddy colt at $1 million. Hip 31 was offered by SGV Thoroughbreds (Steven Venosa), agent.
The February 15 New York-bred was reared by multiple stakes winner Risky Rachel, a daughter of Limehouse and Grade 3 winner Dancin Renee. The latter is herself a half-sister to Grade 2-winning multi-millionaire Say Florida Sandy.
All three seven-figure juveniles had worked one furlong in :10 at the under tack show.
At the conclusion of trading, Fasig-Tipton reported 61 juveniles as sold for $23,495,000, a decline of 6.5 percent from last year when 74 horses brought $25,115,000. However, the average and median rose 13.5 percent and 9.3 percent, respectively. The mean increased from $339,392 to $385,164, while the median was up to $295,000 from $270,000.
