Justify‘s Triple Crown bid began with a Kentucky Derby victory on May 5, 2018, and now that his sweep is complete with a victory in the Belmont Stakes on June 9 at Belmont Park, it is time to begin preparing for the 2019 Kentucky Derby on May 4 at Churchill Downs.
To get the ball rolling, The World’s Most Legendary Racetrack released the logo for the 145th edition of the world’s most famous race. It’s a spiffy logo with a view from the inside rail as a pair of horses duel down the stretch with the iconic Twin Spires in the background. My initial thought is that it will look great on a polo shirt!

My top 10 Derby and Oaks lists are above. It’s hard to lean too much on performances to date, so this is a mix of high-selling horses at auction whose pedigrees and connections I like as well as performance. The biggest fault to this approach is it’s very likely to miss classic-type homebreds until they race, but I see the top 10 lists at this stage to be a more “horses to put on your radar” than any serious exercise in “THESE ARE THE 10 MOST LIKELY WINNERS OF THE DERBY & OAKS FOREVER AND EVER AMEN.”
