The 2019 Dubai World Cup (G1) will offer a record purse of $12 million, a 20 percent increase over this year’s $10 million edition won by Godolphin’s Thunder Snow.

The $7.2 million winner’s share will also be the highest of any Thoroughbred race in the world. In contrast, Gun Runner earned a $7 million winner’s share in this year’s Pegasus World Cup (G1) at Gulfstream Park.

Overall, the March 30 card at Meydan will see total purses increase from $30 million to $35 million. Other stakes receiving purse increases are the Dubai Golden Shaheen (G1), from $2 million to $2.5 million; the Al Quoz Sprint (G1), from $1 million to $2 million; the UAE Derby (G2), from $2 million to $2.5 million; and the Godolphin Mile (G2) and Dubai Gold Cup (G2), from $1 million to $1.5 million each.
