Three-year-old EURO EXCHANGE (Exchange Rate), consigned by Cutting Edge Equine,
agent, as Hip No. 405, went to Justin Casse, agent for
Jim Stackpoole, for $90,000 to top the Horses of Racing Age section of the Ocala
Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2015 Winter Mixed Sale on Thursday.
The Kentucky-bred gray colt, whose three-eighths in :33 2/5 was co-fastest at the distance
during Monday’s under tack
show, is out of Merciful (Rahy), who is a half-sister to Group 2-placed listed winner El Facha
(War Chant) and dual stakes-placed Quail Run (Wagon Limit).
Farther back, Euro Exchange’s female family includes champions High Voltage
(*Ambiorix) and Impressive (*Court Martial) as well as Grade 1 victress Game
Face (Menifee). The colt previously sold for $12,500 as a Keeneland November
weanling and $110,000 as a Keeneland September yearling.
Hip 341, a Tiz Wonderful colt consigned by Select
Sales, agent, was sold to Mike Recio, agent for Rockbridge Bloodstock, for
$50,000 to top the sale’s Open Session. The chestnut yearling colt, a full
bother to stakes winner Bourbonize, is out of Brown Eyes (Halo’s Image), who is
herself a
half-sister to multiple stakes scorer Captain Video (Stalwart).
The Kentucky-bred yearling’s female family also includes Raise You (Case
Ace), who is best known as the dam of champion and noted sire Raise a Native
(Native Dancer).
For the Horses of Racing Age section, 70 horses grossed
$1,200,700, down 25.4 percent when compared with 98 selling for a total of $1,608,900 last year. The
average showed a slight 4.5 percent increase, from $16,417 to $17,153, while the
$7,350 median dropped 26.5 percent when compared to the $10,000 median in 2014. The buyback percentage was 16.7
percent; it was 21.6 percent in
2014.
The Open Session’s gross of $1,088,100 for 141 horses, $7,717 average and
$4,000 median declined 38 percent, 8.1 percent and 20 percent, respectively over
12 months ago when 209 horses brought a total of $1,754,900 for an average of
$8,397 and a median of $5,000. The buyback percentage was 16.6 percent; it was
25.9 percent in 2014.
Next on the OBS agenda is the March Sale of Two-Year-Olds
in Training. With its new expanded format, it is scheduled for March 17-18,
with the under tack show set for March 11-13, beginning each morning at 8 a.m.
