Jockey Rajiv Maragh sustained serious injuries Friday when his mount in
Belmont’s fifth race, Yourcreditisgood (Noonmark), clipped heels and fell on the
far turn. He was transported to North Shore Hospital in Manhasset, New York.
A native of Jamaica, Maragh updated his status on Twitter early Saturday morning:
“I have broken t5 and t6 vertebrae plus 4 more fracture from t4 to t7. Also
broken rib and tiny punct(ured) lung. Was never released from hospital.”
Maragh, who turned 30 on Thursday, updated his status on Twitter at 12:38
p.m. (EDT) on Saturday:
“GREAT news Dr says for now no surgery required. Won’t be able to ride for a
while but I should be walking out of here on my own 2 legs today.”
Yourcreditisgood regained his footing and was caught by the out rider before
walking off the track unassisted.
