After another banner season in 2019, Chad Brown received his fourth consecutive Eclipse Award for outstanding trainer. He established a new North American earnings record of $31,112,144, and trained 20 Grade 1 winners.
Brown won in a landslide, receiving 185 more first-place votes than runner-up Steve Asmussen.
The 41-year-old native of Mechanicville, New York won 222 races from 823 starts, a 27% success rate, and Brown just missed reaching the career-high 224 races he won in 2018. He captured three Breeders’ Cup races at Santa Anita, winning the Turf (G1) with Bricks and Mortar; the Mile (G1) with Uni; and the Juvenile Turf (G1) with Structor.
Bricks and Mortar earned Horse of the Year, winning all six starts over different courses and earning more than $6.7 million. Other notables trained by Brown included Annals of Time, Digital Age, Guarana, Rushing Fall and Sistercharlie.
