Live Oak Plantation’s homebred HIGH FLY (Atticus) raced three wide while
tracking pacesetter Magoo’s Magic (Awesome Again) for the opening half-mile of
Saturday’s $125,000
Aventura S. at Gulfstream Park. Piloted by Eddie Castro, the
Bill White-trained chestnut started his run at the top of the stretch and took
over to score an easy nine-length victory while stopping the clock
in 1:35 4/5 for a mile on the fast track. Sent off at 3-1, the sophomore paid
out $8.20, $5.60 and $4 while keying the $86.10 exacta ($1), $645.20 trifecta
($1) and $8,165 superfecta ($1).

Jockey Jose Santos aboard Drum Major (Dynaformer) lodged a claim of foul
against the winner for alleged interference leaving the gate but it was not
allowed. Drum Major, the 33-1 ninth choice in the 12-horse field, was
responsible for the nice exotics, moving up from midpack to take second over
Magna Graduate (Honor Grades), who was another 1 3/4-lengths back in third. The longshot paid $23.40 and $11.80 while show gave back $5.20. Ginger’s Fella (Rizzi)
left the gate at 30-1 and raced in last for a majority of the race, but improved
nicely as the group hit the stretch, missing the board by only a neck, putting
him on the end of the 6-5-3-11 superfecta which paid $8,165 ($1).

He was followed by D’court’s Speed (Doneraile Court), Rey de Cafe
(Kingmambo), Cherokee Chase (Rizzi), Hal’s Image (Halo’s Image), Magoo’s Magic,
7-5 favorite Deputy Indy (A.P. Indy), Vinotech (Smoke Glacken) and Wahran (Quiet
American).

High Fly moved his record to a perfect 3-0 and nearly tripled his lifetime
earnings to $100,800 with this win. He broke his maiden at Calder last year by 9
1/4 lengths before taking an allowance over that same track by three lengths.
