The board of directors of the Kentucky Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective
Association elected Rick Hiles president of the organization on Monday.
He was the unanimous choice to serve a three-year term. It was the first time
the board, and not the full membership, elected the president. Hiles previously
served two terms as Kentucky HBPA president and one term as National HBPA
president. He replaces Susan Bunning, who chose not to run for reelection…Tattersalls Ireland has announced that catalogs are on-line for the December

, which will take place on December 12 at Fairyhouse, Ireland. Slated to sell that
day are broodmares, weanlings and yearlings as well as stallion prospects. The
covering sires include Invincible Spirit, Antonius Pius, One Cool Cat, Elusive
City and Bachelor Duke. Catalogs are available on tattersalls.ie…Group 1 winner MAGICAL ROMANCE (Barathea [Ire]) established a
new
world record for a broodmare or broodmare prospect
when selling for 4.6 million
guineas (approximately $9,358,608) at Tuesday’s session of the Tattersalls
December sale in Newmarket, England. In foal to Pivotal, the four-year-old filly
is a half-sister to dual classic winner Alexandrova (Sadler’s Wells). London
Thoroughbred Services made the winning bid. The previous world record was set by
multiple champion Ashado (Saint Ballado), who sold for $9 million at the 2005
Keeneland November sale.
