Buzzards Bay brings $725,000
Santa Anita Derby (G1) hero BUZZARDS BAY (Marco Bay), the last offering of
Day 1 at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July Yearling Sale, was purchased for $725,000 on
Monday night by Gary Broad. The Jeff Mullins-trained bay has earned
$625,746 from a 10-3-1-2 line, including a win the Golden Gate Derby and a third in the El Camino Real Derby (G3) earlier this year.
Previously owned by Fog City Stable, the Florida-bred sophomore colt was sold
to dissolve a partnership between the stable's owners, David Shimmon
and Bill Bianco. Shimmon will continue to race under the Fog City name, while
Bianco will race under the Sunset Stables banner. The two have split their up
their two-year-olds and will sell five mares at the Keeneland November Breeding
Stock Sale.
Buzzards Bay will be transferred to trainer Ron Ellis, according to his new
owner.
