Commanding Curve to skip Preakness, aim for Belmont

Last updated: 5/5/14 3:27 PM

Kentucky Derby runner-up Commanding Curve will bypass the $1.5 million

Preakness on May 17 and will next race in the $1.5 million Belmont Stakes on

June 7

Terry Finley of West Point Thoroughbreds confirmed the plans via the racing

syndicate's Twitter account after an earlier report was published at

Bloodhorse.com.

"Even before (the) Derby, (trainer) Dallas (Stewart) said he thought

(Commanding Curve) would be tough over 'Big Sandy,'" Finley revealed in the

tweet.

A son of Master Command, Commanding Curve finished 1 3/4 lengths behind

California Chrome in the Kentucky Derby.

A maiden winner in his fourth career start at Churchill Downs last November,

the colt finished sixth in the Risen Star and third in the Louisiana Derby, both

at Fair Grounds, prior to the Run for the Roses.
