Field heads second Derby Future

The listing of all other three-year-olds on Pool 2 of the

Kentucky Derby Future Wager was installed as the 6-1 favorite when wagering was

closed on Sunday. A total of $58,733 was wagered on the listed.

Grade 1 winner AFLEET ALEX (Northern Afleet) was the lowest odds

among the individual betting interests, closing at 8-1. A total of $44,375 was

wagered on the bay colt, who was a surprise entrant in the Mountain Valley S. on

March 5. He captured that six-furlong test by 2 3/4 lengths in his sophomore

debut and is now headed for the March 19 Rebel S. (G3) at Oaklawn Park.

The only other individual listing to close at single-digit odds

was HIGH LIMIT (Maria's Mon), who made his three-year-old bow a four-length romp

in the Louisiana Derby (G2) on Saturday. That was the Bobby Frankel charge's

first time going 1 1/16 miles, and the bay colt is now three-for-three lifetime.

He closed at 9-1 in the Future Wager with $29,243 wagered on him.

Juvenile champion filly SWEET CATOMINE (Storm Cat) will find

herself facing the boys in the April 9 Santa Anita Derby (G1) after an easy

three-length score in the Santa Anita Oaks (G1) on Sunday. She closed at 16-1 in

Pool 2.

"To run her in the (Kentucky) Derby, she's going to have to

prove to us she deserves to be in there and she'll have to show us that,

everything going right in the Santa Anita Derby," owner and breeder Marty Wygod

said. "Unless she shows us that she belongs in the Kentucky Derby we're not

going to run her there. The Santa Anita Derby is what we have next."

The other major change to Pool 2 came when DECLAN'S MOON (Malibu

Moon) was withdrawn due to a non-displaced bone chip in his left knee. By the

time the announcement came on Friday morning, $5,564 had already been wagered on

the gelding.

A total of $511,655 was wagered into Pool 2 of the Kentucky

Derby Future Wager.
