Another sensational Royal Ascot is in the books. With sunny skies making for good-to-firm going, the tricky soft-ground variable was eliminated, and the results were generally logical.

Star power was on full display when the five-day Royal Ascot meeting opened in England on Tuesday. Baaeed and Nature Strip were among the first to shine.

Wesley Ward’s Golden Pal blasted to the front early in Friday’s Nunthorpe S. (G1) at York, but by halfway, speedy sophomore filly Winter Power was already grabbing the free ticket to the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G1).

Wesley Ward believes that Golden Pal will turn out to be the best he’s ever trained. The Uncle Mo colt appears determined to back up that claim, making a triumphant return in Thursday’s Quick Call S. (G3) at Saratoga.
