Einstein remains perfect in 2006 after his Gulfstream win (Eleanor Gustafson/Horsephotos.com) Midnight Cry Stable's EINSTEIN (Brz) (Spend a Buck) turned his stakes debut into a smashing success on Saturday, winning the $190,000 Gulfstream Park Breeders' Cup S. (G1) in wire-to-wire fashion. Trained by Helen Pitts and deftly handled by Rafael Bejarano, the dark bay colt kicked clear into the stretch and gamely repulsed the challenge of Go Deputy (Deputy Minister) to record a neck decision, finishing 1 7/16 miles over the yielding course in 2:23 4/5. Technically a four-year-old but actually 3 1/2 since he was bred in Brazil, Einstein defeated older horses on Saturday while leaping up in class and returned $16.40, $7 and $4 as the 7-1 fifth choice in the field of eight. "I told you he was special," an exuberant Pitts commented. "They thought I bit off more than I could chew, and I agreed with them until now. He's still coming along. He's still just a baby, but he's got a lot of heart."  He didn't lead every step of the way, briefly surrendering the advantage to the favored Gun Salute (Military) early on the backstretch, but was in front at every call, establishing splits in :25 3/5, :51 2/5, 1:18 and 1:42 3/5 for the mile. Go Deputy, who made a couple of runs at the winner but could never get past the rapidly improving colt, settled for second at 5-2 and gave back $4 and $2.60. It was three lengths back to Secretariat S. (G1) hero and 2-1 favorite Gun Salute, who paid $3.

The $1 exotics totaled $37.20 (exacta), $153.10 (trifecta) and $566.20 for

the 4-3-8-7 superfecta which included Mustanfar (Unbridled) in fourth. Next

across the wire came Broadway View (Broad Brush), Honor in War (Lord at War [Arg]),

Request for Parole (Judge T C) and Continuously (Diesis [GB]).

Bred by Fazenda Mondesir, Einstein has now earned

$158,640 from a 6-4-0-0 mark. He broke his maiden at Churchill Downs when making

his second career start in early November and opened his 2006 campaign with turf

allowance and off-the-turf allowance wins at Gulfstream Park. Einstein ranks

among the rising stars on display at Gulfstream this meet.

Einstein has been invited to the U.A.E. Derby (UAE-G2), which is restricted

to three-year-olds bred in the Northern Hemisphere and four-year-olds bred in

the Southern.

"There are a lot of options here (in the United States)," Pitts said. "We're going

to sit down and lay out some best-case scenarios. Dubai is hard on a horse, but

it's a great opportunity to consider."

Out of the multiple Group 1 winner Gay Charm (Ghadeer), Einstein hails from

regal bloodlines in Brazil. Half-sister Charm Us (Clackson) is the dam of Group

1 winner Istbestand (Much Better) and half-sister Feiticeira Regina (Roi Normand)

is the dam of the Group 3-winning Maria Mole (Much Better). His half-sister

Veracite (Roy) is Group 3-placed herself.

The future is very bright for Einstein.
