Hollywood opens 24-day fall meet

Last updated: 11/6/12 5:25 PM

Hollywood Park will begin its 32nd Autumn Meet Thursday, with post time at

12:30 p.m. (PST). Scheduled for 24 days through December 16, the meet is

highlighted by four Grade 1 events and the annual Autumn Turf Festival (November

23-25).

Two of the Grade 1 events are on grass and part of the Festival -- the

$250,000 Matriarch and the $250,000 Hollywood Derby. Both races will be run

November 25.

Two-year-olds are spotlighted in the other Grade 1's -- the $500,000

Hollywood Starlet and the $750,000 CashCall Futurity. Won a year ago by 14-1

outsider Killer Graces, the Starlet is scheduled for December 8. The Futurity,

which was taken by Liasion in 2011, will be run December 15.

Racing will be conducted four days a week (Thursday-Sunday) throughout the

season. Post time will be 12:30 p.m. daily with one exception -- 11 a.m. on

Thanksgiving Day, November 22.

The first stakes on the Autumn schedule is the $100,000 Real Quiet, which

will be run for the seventh time on Saturday. An ungraded event for

two-year-olds at 1 1/16 miles over Cushion Track, the Real Quiet is a prep for

the CashCall Futurity. Liaison won the Real Quiet and Futurity last year,

becoming the second juvenile to win both races. Comma to the Top completed the

sweep in 2010.

The wagering menu will continue to offer the Player's Pick 5, now a staple on

the Southern California circuit after being introduced at the 2011 Spring/Summer

meet. The 50-cent minimum wager with a reduced 14 percent takeout will be

offered daily on Races 1-5.
