Shapiro's Daily Selections Heating Up at Indiana Grand

It is hard to believe that we are almost to Labor Day. That means that the Indiana Grand five-day racing calendar is in its final week and that meeting is down to its last two months.

After a subpar start to the 2017 meeting in Indiana that saw plenty of long shots that I found nearly impossible to unveil, I have really found my footing during August at the Indianapolis-area oval, and my Daily Selections full-card analysis with best bets stats reflect that.

Perhaps it was getting used to the new circuit or maybe it was the increase in two-year-old maiden races and for the most part good weather that helped lead to the strong month thus far (an ironic statement considering Indiana Grand cancelled Tuesday, August 22, because of rain).

For the month, I have picked 41 winners from 110 races for a 37.3% strike rate, and even more important, a +6.5% ROI on all picks.

The month got off to a good start with trainer Gary Patrick saddling top pick Lotta Grit to an $18.40 return on August 4, and less than a week later Billboard continued the good vibes with a gate-to-wire victory at 6-to-1.

With two weeks in a row of positive results, I was determined to keep the good times rolling into week three, and did so right off the rip on Tuesday (the start of Indiana Grand’s race week) August 15 with 5-to-1 There’syourtrouble for trainer Steve Asmussen. Wednesday yielded another 5-to-1 shot in Already Packed, who wired a group of maidens going two turns on the turf.

As we head into the final five-day week of the year and the last week of racing in August, I hope to be able to close out my most successful month since starting work as the Brisnet Daily Handicapper for Indiana Grand.
