Keeneland catalogs record 5,709 for November sale

Keeneland announced Wednesday it has cataloged a record 5,709 horses for its

annual November Breeding Stock Sale, which is scheduled for November 3-17. The

total number cataloged for November exceeds last year by 294 horses, and

comprises 2,267 broodmares, 2893 weanlings, 542 horses of racing age and seven

stallions.

"Keeneland November's catalog is unmatched in terms of stakes-winning and

stakes-producing fillies and mares, as well as weanlings by some of the hottest

stallions around," said Geoffrey Russell, Keeneland's director of sales. "Such a

deep pool of quality individuals draws the largest group of domestic and foreign

buyers in the world."

Mares in-foal to 278 different stallions will be offered, including such

established sires as A.P. Indy, Awesome Again, Distorted Humor, Dynaformer,

Elusive Quality, Empire Maker, Forestry, Ghostzapper, Giant's Causeway, Gone

West, Indian Charlie, Mr. Greeley, Lion Heart, Medaglia d'Oro, Montjeu (Ire),

More Than Ready, Pulpit, Seeking the Gold, Smart Strike, Smarty Jones,

Songandaprayer, Speightstown, Storm Cat, Street Cry (Ire), Tale of the Cat,

Tiznow and Unbridled's Song.

Also cataloged are mares in foal to such promising young sires as After

Market, Any Given Saturday, Bernardini, Bluegrass Cat, Corinthian, Daaher,

Discreet Cat, English Channel, First Samurai, Hard Spun, Invasor (Arg), Lawyer

Ron, Scat Daddy and Street Sense, among others

Weanlings will be featured representing many of the world's premier sires,

such as A.P. Indy, Afleet Alex, Awesome Again, Distorted Humor, Dynaformer, El

Prado (Ire), Elusive Quality, Empire Maker, Forestry, Fusaichi Pegasus, Galileo

(Ire), Ghostzapper, Giacomo, Giant's Causeway, Gone West, Indian Charlie, Lion

Heart, Kingmambo, Medaglia d'Oro, Mineshaft, Monjeu (Ire), More Than Ready, Mr.

Greeley, Proud Citizen, Pulpit, Rockport Harbor, Seeking the Gold, Smart Strike,

Smarty Jones, Speightstown, Storm Cat, Street Cry (Ire), Tale of the Cat, Tapit,

Tiznow and Unbridled's Song.

Additionally, weanlings by such new stallions as Aragorn (Ire), Bernardini,

Bluegrass Cat, First Samurai, Flower Alley and Henny Hughes are catalogued.

The November Sale counts among its graduates such 2008 stakes winners as

Beverly D. S. (G1) queen Mauralakana (Fr) (Muhtathir); Grade 1 heroine

Hystericalady (Distorted Humor); Whitney (G1) and Massachusetts H. winner

Commentator (Distorted Humor); Donn H. (G1) winner Spring at Last (Silver

Deputy); Diana S. (G1) victress Forever Together (Belong to Me); Godolphin Mile

(UAE-G2) victor Diamond Stripes (Notebook); Amsterdam S. (G2) hero and Canadian

champion Kodiak Kowboy (Posse); and Illinois Derby (G2) winner Recapturetheglory

(Cherokee Run).

Last November's auction was highlighted by the sale of Group 1 stakes winner

Playful Act (Ire) (Sadler's Wells) for a world-record $10.5 million. John

Ferguson purchased the filly on behalf of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum

from the consignment of Hill 'n' Dale Sales Agency, agent for the dispersal of

the Robert Sangster family's Swettenham Stud. A total of 39 horses sold for $1

million or more, contributing to a November Sale record gross of $340 million.

Catalogs for the sale will be available online at keeneland.com beginning

October 1 and print catalogs will be mailed the week of October 13. Sessions

begin daily at 10 a.m. (ET). Keeneland will provide live coverage of the entire

15-day sale on its website.
