Makfi to Tweenhills upon retirement

Last updated: 9/2/10 6:17 PM

This year's English Two Thousand Guineas (Eng-G1) and Prix Jacques le Marois

(Fr-G1) winner MAKFI (Dubawi) will stand at Tweenhills Stud for the 2011

breeding season after being sold to Qatar's Al Thani family.

Mathieu Offenstadt's three-year-old, who was an infamous Shadwell cast-off

before metamorphosing into classic hero this spring, is set to join Sleeping

Indian (GB) at the Gloucestershire-based operation. The transfer of ownership

will take place after the Breeders' Cup Mile (G1) on November 6.

"It is a dream come true to agree a deal to acquire a horse of Makfi's

caliber," Stud Manager David Redvers said. "Few other racehorses retire with

such credentials as a sire -- he has it all. He ticks every box. To have him to

stand at Tweenhills, in England, is a massive boost when he could have so easily

been lost from Europe and I am incredibly grateful to my clients the Al Thani

family for investing so seriously in our industry at a time when shrewd

investment is so badly required.

"(Makfi) has comprehensively outclassed the best milers of a generation on

good-to-firm and soft ground and has nothing left to prove having beaten

Goldikova (Ire) (Anabaa), Canford Cliffs (Tagula), Paco Boy (Desert Style), Dick

Turpin (Arakan), et al. However add to this a marvelous temperament, electric

acceleration, majestic pedigree, stunning conformation, physique and, with his

sire Dubawi on fire, you have the complete package. My clients and I are

thrilled to be involved with Makfi and to be part of the ongoing fairytale so

beautifully crafted by Mikel Delzangles and his team."

Makfi's dam, Dhelaal (Green Desert), is a half-sister to Group 1-winning

multiple highweight Alhaarth (Unfuwain), and this is the same family as Group 1

scores Green Dancer (Nijinsky II), Okawango (Kingmambo) and Authorized (Montjeu

[Ire]), just to name a few.

The bay colt is likely to be trained for the Queen Elizabeth II S. (Eng-G1)

at Ascot on September 25.
