Mirahmadi resigns from Oaklawn, Runhappy works
Race caller Frank Mirahmadi announced his resignation from Oaklawn Park via
Twitter on Tuesday.
According to published reports, the Los Angeles native will split
race-calling duties at Santa Anita and Golden Gate Fields this upcoming winter
and spring with Golden Gate announcer Michael Wrona.
Both Santa Anita and Golden Gate Fields are owned by the Stronach Group.
The announcing vacancy at Santa Anita was caused by the resignation last week
of Trevor Denman, who had been Santa Anita's full time announcer since the
1984-85 winter/spring meet. Denman also called at the track's 1983 Oak Tree
meet.
A search is now on for Mirahmadi's replacement at Oaklawn.
In other news Tuesday, Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1) winner Runhappy worked six
furlongs in 1:11 over Santa Anita's fast main track. It was the fastest of 14
works at the distance.
Runhappy, who is expected to be named champion male sprinter at next month's
Eclipse Award ceremony, is preparing for his final race of the year in the
December 26 Malibu (G1) at Santa Anita over seven furlongs.
TwinSpires.com blog will resume Wednesday.
