Octave substitutes for Rags to Riches in CCA Oaks

Last updated: 7/19/07 8:25 PM

OCTAVE (Unbridled's Song) will substitute for stablemate Rags to Riches (A.P.

Indy) in Saturday's $300,000 Coaching Club American Oaks (G1) at Belmont Park.

The Todd Pletcher-trained sophomore filly wasn't expected to take part in the 1

1/4-mile test following her half-length victory in the Mother Goose S. (G1) on

June 30, but she wound up being a replacement after Rags to Riches spiked a

fever over the weekend. John Velazquez will return to the saddle aboard the gray

lass, who has finished either first or second in all nine career starts. Octave

will face six opponents here.

"Coming back in 21 days is a little quicker than we normally would," Pletcher

explained, "but the way she's training it shouldn't be a problem. If we don't

run here, we'd have to either go in the (August 4) Test (G1) (at seven furlongs) or wait and go a mile and a quarter in the

(August 18) Alabama (G1)."

Unbeaten LEAR'S PRINCESS (Lear Fan), a half-length winner of the grassy

Tweedside S. at 3-5 last out, will make her graded and dirt debut in the CCA

Oaks. Trained by Kiaran McLaughlin, the bay filly broke her maiden over the

Polytrack at Keeneland and captured her next two starts on grass. The lightly

raced miss will receive a rider switch to Eibar Coa.

Godolphin's FOLK (Quiet American), who posted victories earlier this year in

the U.A.E. Oaks and U.A.E. One Thousand Guineas, will make her first start in nearly

four months for trainer Saeed bin Suroor in the Coaching Club. She's won three

of six career starts and broke her maiden in New York last November.

Canadian Grade 3 juvenile winner COY COYOTE (Honour and Glory), runner-up

when making her 2007 debut in the Without Feathers S. at Monmouth Park last out,

will break from the rail for trainer Michael Dickinson with jockey Fernando Jara.

To their outside in the starting gate comes Iowa Oaks (G3) runner-up HUMBLE

JANET (Humble Eleven), Alan Garcia; WOW ME FREE (Menifee), Javier Castellano;

ROSIE'S ATTITUDE (Aptitude), Rafael Bejarano; Octave; Lear's Princess; and Folk,

Mike Luzzi.

All starters will carry 121 pounds.
