A solid field of seven has been assembled to run in the $200,000 Peter Pan S.

(G2) at Belmont Park on Saturday. The Shug McGaughey-trained IMPERIAL COUNCIL

(Empire Maker), second in the Gotham S. (G3) two races back, has been training

big all spring and seems poised for a break out performance in this nine-furlong

test. The talented sophomore broke his maiden over this strip in October, and

after winning his first two of the year, the Kentucky-bred faced graded foes in

his last pair, finishing fifth in the Wood Memorial S. (G1) most recently. The

potential lack of early pace should see this one right with the early tempo

beneath Edgar Prado.

Multiple graded stakes-placed HELLO BROADWAY (Broken Vow) will add blinkers

for this run off of a facile allowance win at Keeneland for Barclay Tagg. The

well-bred chestnut was a sharp second in the Hutcheson S. (G2) to start the year

but regressed in the subsequent Tamp Bay Derby (G3), where he finished a

non-threatening seventh. His recent five-furlong bullet drill suggests that

he'll be ready for this run, and we love that Garrett Gomez elected to stick

with him here.

CHARITABLE MAN (Lemon Drop Kid) was awesome in his debut and completed his

two-race juvenile campaign with a sharp score in the Futurity S. (G2) over this

strip for Kiaran McLaughlin. The well-meant colt made his 2009 bow in the Blue

Grass S. (G1) at Keeneland, and while he never really fired in that one, he

should move up significantly with a race under his belt. Alan Garcia will be in

the irons.

BRAVE VICTORY (Lion Heart) impressed at Gulfstream with a closing win in a

deep allowance field, but the Nick Zito charge failed to impress in two graded

events following that win. The bay was a dominant maiden winner over Big Sandy

at two and could challenge for a placing if any of our top three were to falter

in here.

STATELY CHARACTER (Pleasant Tap) was last seen finishing a distant fourth in

the Florida Derby (G1), and has been freshened for this engagement. The Gerald

Procino pupil has some ability, but he boasts just one career win and is facing

some fine prospects in this one. His best chances lie in a late run behind a

fast pace, which seems unlikely.

SCOREWITHCATER (Even the Score) has already turned out to be superb $40,000

claim by Doug O' Neill, as the three-year-old has won three of five, including a

game score over subsequent Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Mine That Bird (Birdstone)

in the Borderland Derby. The Kentucky-bred chestnut exits a useful third in the

Sunland Derby, which looks infinitely better than it did eight days ago, but he

needs to step up again to challenge this field late.

Peruvian import AL KHALI (Medaglia d'Oro) captured his first race in the

United States, an allowance at Gulfstream Park, but stopped quickly when asked

for run in the Illinois Derby (G2) in his latest venture. The Todd Pletcher

trainee owns good tactical speed, but we've yet to see a performance from him

that warrants attention at this level.
