Once-beaten Belmont S. (G1) heroine RAGS TO RICHES (A.P. Indy) traveled five

furlongs in 1:04 over Belmont Park's fast main track on Sunday. Regular exercise

rider Lauren Robson was aboard for the leisurely move, which ranked as the 29th

fastest of 31 at the distance. Trainer Todd Pletcher is pleased with his star

filly as she aims for the July 21 Coaching Club American Oaks (G1).

"It was very good," Pletcher said of the work. "It was almost identical to

what she did before the Belmont (five-eighths in 1:03 4/5 on June 3). She was

nice and relaxed and galloped out real strong."

Pletcher indicated that the blaze-faced chestnut would likely turn in one

more work before lining up in the 1 1/4-mile C.C.A. Oaks. While she may go

slightly faster in her next exercise, Pletcher wasn't preoccupied with her time.

"Maybe a little bit (quicker), but she seems to run well off moderate works,

so we're not looking to change anything," he added.

Rags to Riches has been literally unbeatable since breaking her maiden at

Santa Anita in January. After capturing the Las Virgenes S. (G1), Santa Anita

Oaks (G1) and Kentucky Oaks (G1), she outdueled Preakness S. (G1) victor Curlin

(Smart Strike) to become the first filly in 102 years to win the Belmont.

Considering her dominance, a very small field is likely for the C.C.A. Oaks,

and that suits Pletcher just fine.

"It doesn't bother me, as long as they use the race," Pletcher joked. "I

don't mind a walkover, but I nominated enough horses to ensure they'd use the

race."

A half-sister to 2006 Belmont winner Jazil (Seeking the Gold), Rags to Riches

sports a mark of 6-5-0-0, $1,292,528.
