A European longshot again dominated the shortest of Breeders' Cup races at Del Mar on Saturday when Starlust won a three-way photo by a nose in the $920,000 Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint (G1).

Juddmonte’s homebred Bluestocking crowned her season in Sunday’s $5.5 million Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (G1), giving the late Khalid Abdullah’s operation a record-setting seventh victory in Europe’s fall championship.

Sunday’s Arc Trials at ParisLongchamp provided clues for the Oct. 6 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (G1).

Champions Day concluded with major upsets. Hitherto unbeaten Baaeed could muster only fourth in his finale, as Bay Bridge returned with a vengeance in the Champion, and Bayside Boy sprang a surprise in the Queen Elizabeth II.

In addition to Alpinista in the main event, British-trained horses captured two other Group 1s on Arc Day, and the French turned their own Group 1 triple in Breeders’ Cup Challenge races.

A tactical race in a small field proved a trap for odds-on favorite Flying Honours, but Saturday’s Royal Lodge (G2) at Newmarket suited King Power Racing’s The Foxes.

With the heavy going likely playing a role in the results, favorites were beaten in four other Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” events on Arc Day.
