Reset colt tops Morphettville sales session

Last updated: 3/9/09 6:52 PM

It was a buyer's market at the first

session of the 2009 Magic Millions Yearling Sale at Morphettville Monday

night. At the end of the first session A$1,419,000 was traded on 76 yearlings at

an average price of A$18,671.

Topping the session with a A$105,000 final bid was

a colt by Reset out of Excitant (Rory's Jester). Offered by

Mill Park Stud, Lot No. 113 was purchased by Mark Kavanagh. Kavanagh enjoyed earlier

success buying yearlings from the Morphettville ring, including Group 1 winners

Divine Madonna (Hurricane Sky), Devil Moon (King Cugat), Hard

to Get (Geiger Counter) and Undoubtedly (Redoute's Choice).

"This sale has always been renowned for producing high quality gallopers at

bargain prices," Magic Millions Managing Director David Chester said. "Tonight

the prices were lower than we would have hoped, but that certainly keeps our

buyers happy. Anyone serious about finding a great value yearling should make

sure they are here for (Tuesday's) second session.

"It was

tough going throughout the night -- this has been the trend around the world this

year with the current economic situation," Chester added regarding the current

state of the economy and how it affected Monday's sale. "Trainers are finding

it hard to buy on spec' and this particularly affects a sale like Adelaide which

is renowned as a real trainers sale."
