Sambista upsets Champions Cup at 65-1; California Chrome
works for San Pasqual
Sambista was sent off at 65-1 in Sunday's Champions Cup (Jpn-G1) (formerly the
Japan Cup Dirt) at Chukyo Racecourse, but ran like a favorite when defeating the
boys to become the first distaffer to prevail in a Grade 1 dirt race at the JRA level.
On Saturday at Los Alamitos, Horse of the Year and 2014 Kentucky Derby (G1) hero
California Chrome worked five furlongs in 1:01 ahead of a scheduled start in
Santa Anita Park's $200,000 San Pasqual S. (G2) going 1 1/16 miles on January 9.
