WinStar Farm's SAVVY SUPREME (Distorted Humor) tracked the early pace in

Saturday's $159,000

Monmouth Oaks (G3) before taking command of the 1 1/16-mile affair and

pulling off for the 1 3/4-length victory. Trained by Todd Pletcher and ridden by

Elvis Trujillo, the bay lass stopped the clock in 1:43 1/5 over Monmouth Park's

fast main track.

My Sunshine Gal (West Acre) led the field on the backstretch with Coco Ecolo (Johannesburg)

keeping in close attendance just off her flank. Savvy Supreme bided her time in

third through splits of :23 and :46 3/5, then moved up to challenge for the

advantage as My Sunshine Gal passed six furlongs in 1:10 3/5. Strike the Moon (Malibu Moon)

squeezed through on the rail to join the assault on the leader, but that one

couldn't keep up as Savvy Supreme picked up the pace.

Trujillo briefly went to the left-handed whip in the stretch, but

immediately switched to his right when Savvy Supreme drifted toward the

middle of the track. Miss Valentine (Afleet Alex), the 8-5 favorite, was

just beginning her run after being forced to steady behind a tiring

rival approaching the turn, and appeared for a moment ready to test

Savvy Supreme. Her rival just kept going, though, eventually crossing

under the wire a clear winner.

Despite her 1 3/4-length margin on the line, Savvy Supreme was forced

to wait for her time in the winner's circle. The stewards posted the

inquiry sign and jockey Joe Bravo on Miss Valentine lodged an objection

alleging Savvy Supreme came over on his mount in the lane. It didn't

take long for the Oaks result to be declared official with no changes.

"We had the perfect trip," Trujillo said. "I was able to sit just off the

speed duel. She shied away from the left hand whip, so I switched over to the

right down the stretch.

"She was impressive today. There was no way that other horse (Miss Valentine)

was going to catch her."

Savvy Supreme earned her first graded victory while paying $17, $7.60 and

$5.20 as the 7-1 fourth pick in the Monmouth Oaks. Miss Valentine entered the

race off a three-length win in the Serena's Song S. at the New Jersey venue and

was easily best of the rest by 3 1/4 lengths over Withgreatpleasure (Hold That Tiger).

Strike the Moon followed in fourth, with Canadian Mistress (Canadian Frontier), Daring Reality (Include), Marvel Gaye (Bowman's Band), Marion Ravenwood (A.P. Indy),

My Sunshine Gal, Dance Quietly (A.P. Indy) and Coco Ecolo completing the order

under the wire.

Savvy Supreme took two tries to break her maiden, getting the job done at

Gulfstream Park on April 2 by 5 1/4 lengths. She reappeared one month later at

Belmont Park to take her stakes bow in the Classy Mirage S. by a half-length,

then suffered the worse finish of her short career when last of six in the Acorn

S. (G1). The sophomore miss rebounded a bit to finish second last out in the

Sometime Thing S. at Belmont, and now boasts a 6-3-2-0 line to go along with

$177,525 in lifetime earnings.

Bred in Kentucky by Brereton C. Jones and Racehorse Management LLC, Savvy

Supreme sold for $520,000 to her current connections as a Keeneland November

weanling. She is out of the unraced Storm Bird mare Outsource, making her a full

sister to multi-millionaire Commentator, who captured the 2005 and 2008 runnings

of the Whitney H. (G1). The pair also have an unraced juvenile half-brother

named Citizen's Charter (Proud Citizen) and a 2011 half-sister by Divine Park.

Outsource is herself a half-sibling to Grade 3-placed stakes victor Cogburn

(French Deputy).

Savvy Supreme's third dam is responsible for producing Grade 3 victor

Legislator (Royal Academy) and dual Grade 3 heroine Hot Novel (Mari's Book), who

would go on in the breeding shed to foal multiple Grade 1-winning sire and Dubai

World Cup (UAE-G1) second Behrens (Pleasant Colony).

Others of note in this female family include Grade 1 vixen Golden Bri (Gold

Alert) and multiple Grade 2 scorer Cowboy Cal (Giant's Causeway).
