Shadai Farm, Katsumi Yoshida active at Fasig-Tipton
Current multiple Grade 1 star CONTESTED (Ghostzapper) was the first to set off fireworks at Fasig-Tipton Monday when selling for $2.3 million to Shadai Farm. Offered as a racing or broodmare prospect by Hill 'n' Dale Sales Agency, agent, the three-year-old filly was cataloged as Hip No. 41. Contested, who was far surpassing her $110,000 price as a Keeneland September yearling, rates as one of this year's leading one-turn specialists. The Bob Baffert pupil romped in four of five starts in 2012, most notably in the Grade 1 Test, Grade 1 Acorn and Grade 3 Eight Belles. Unraced since the August 25 Test, she was recently removed from consideration for the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint. Her resume reads 7-5-1-0, $633,754. Contested was produced by the Arch mare Gold Vault, who is herself a full sister to the stakes-placed Acquileia and a half-sister to multiple Grade 1-winning sire Pomeroy (Boundary). Stakes-winning PILFER (Deputy Minister), the dam of newly-retired multiple Grade 1 star To Honor and Serve (Bernardini), was purchased by Borges Torrealba Holdings for $1.95 million. The 10-year-old mare, Hip 129, is carrying a full sibling to To Honor and Serve on an April 6 cover.

Pilfer's value has increased with each trip to the sales ring. Sold for
$220,000 as a Keeneland September yearling, she commanded $650,000 as a
broodmare at Keeneland November in 2008.
Pilfer has been in the headlines courtesy of $1.7 million-earner To Honor and
Serve, who boasts victories in the Grade 1 Woodward, Grade 1 Cigar Mile, Grade 2
Pennsylvania Derby, Grade 2 Remsen, Grade 2 Nashua and Grade 3 Westchester. The
four-year-old is now headed to stud at Gainesway.
Consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent, Pilfer is a half-sister to
Grade 2 winner India (Hennessy) and to Group 3-placed stakes scorer Sing Softly
(Hennessy). Their dam, the Grade 2-placed stakes victress Misty Hour (Miswaki),
comes from the family of Canadian champion turf horse Rahy's Attorney (Crown
Attorney). Pilfer's third dam is the influential matron Java Moon (Graustark),
ancestress of multiple Grade 1 queens Memories of Silver (Silver Hawk) and
Winter Memories (El Prado).
Millionaire TAPITSFLY (Tapit) attracted a winning bid of $1.85 million from
Katsumi Yoshida. Last seen landing the Grade 1 First Lady at Keeneland on
October 6, Hip 166 was offered by Romans Racing & Sales, agent, as a racing or
broodmare prospect.
Tapitsfly, winner of the 2009 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf, has been
in career-best form in 2012. The gray padded her resume with scores in the Grade
1 Just a Game and Grade 2 Honey Fox, and placings in the Grade 1 Jenny Wiley,
Grade 2 Churchill Distaff Turf Mile and Grade 3 Marshua's River. Following her
First Lady heroics, she claims a 24-7-6-4, $1,495,503 scorecard, reflecting a
total of 12 stakes credits.
Out of the winning Marlin mare Flying Marlin, Tapitsfly comes from the family
of Grade 1-placed multiple stakes victress Malli Star (Baldski), the dam of
Japanese classic-placed Bella Rheia (Narita Top Road). Deeper back in the line,
one finds multiple Grade 1-winning millionaire Golden Pheasant (Caro).
Tapitsfly's fifth dam is Pink Pigeon, a noted racemare of the late 1960s.
Shadai Farm bought Grade 1 queen SANTA TERESITA (Lemon Drop Kid) for $1.75
million. Entered as Hip 146 by Bluewater Sales, agent, the eight-year-old mare
is in foal to Bernardini on a May 30 cover.
Santa Teresita, $22,000 RNA as a Keeneland September yearling, landed her
biggest prize in the Grade 1 Santa Maria Handicap in 2009. Chief among her
handful of stakes placings are the Grade 1 Santa Margarita Invitational and
Grade 1 Lady's Secret. Her first two foals are a yearling filly by Sea the Stars
and a weanling colt by Tapit.
Santa Teresita is a half-sister to Italian highweight juvenile filly Sweet
Hearth (Touch Gold), who also placed in the Group 1 Prix de la Foret, as well as
to Grade 3-placed sophomore Warners (Dehere). Other family members include Grade
2 winner The Lone Ranger (Shelter Half), Carolina Cup Steeplechase hero Eremite
(Spring Double) and champion Furl Sail (Revoked).
Yoshida paid $1.6 million for reigning champion sprint female MUSICAL ROMANCE
(Concorde's Tune), who was offered as a racing or broodmare prospect by Three
Chimneys Sales, agent. The rags-to-riches mare appreciated remarkably from her
$22,000 price as an OBS April two-year-old.
The hardy Musical Romance raced 41 times, with a record of 12-6-8. The
five-year-old won or placed in a total of 20 stakes while bankrolling $1,681,885
-- just a little more than she brought Monday. In addition to clinching an
Eclipse Award through her victory in the 2011 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint,
Musical Romance claims noteworthy titles in the Grade 1 Princess Rooney, Grade 2
Presque Isle Downs Masters and Grade 2 Inside Information. She was sixth when
seeking a repeat in last Friday's Filly & Mare Sprint.
Musical Romance is a half-sister to Vuelve Ruben M. (Concerto), the champion
imported two-year-old colt in Puerto Rico. Their dam, the winning Slew Gin Fizz
mare Candlelightdinner, is a half-sister to multiple stakes scorers Sea of Green
(Seacliff) and Lady Gin (Saint Ballado). Grade 1 heroine Rigoletta (Concerto)
and Grade 3 victor Gourmet Dinner (Trippi) are other maternal relatives.
EDEN'S MOON (Malibu Moon), winner of this season's Grade 1 Las Virgenes
Stakes, commanded $1,525,000 from Mandore International Agency. Hill 'n' Dale Sales Agency, agent,
consigned the sophomore, Hip 55, as a racing or broodmare prospect.
In addition to her Grade 1 coup on dirt, the Baffert filly took the Grade 2
San Clemente Handicap on turf and missed by a nose in the Grade 2 Hollywood Oaks
on Cushion Track. She also finished third in both the Grade 1 Santa Anita Oaks
and the Grade 2 Indiana Oaks last time out October 6, resulting in a record of
9-3-2-2, $387,216.
Eden's Moon, who RNA'd for $110,000 as a Fasig-Tipton Florida two-year-old,
sold for $390,000 later that spring at Fasig-Tipton Midlantic. She is the second
registered foal from the winning Eden's Causeway (Giant's Causeway), who is in
turn a half-sister to champion turf horse Paradise Creek (Irish River) and Grade
1 winners Forbidden Apple (Pleasant Colony) and Wild Event (Wild Again). This is
the rich family of multiple highweight David Junior (Pleasant Tap), Japanese
Grade 1 star Taiki Blizzard (Seattle Slew) and champion turf horse and noted
sire Theatrical (Nureyev).
Grade 1 winner C. S. SILK (Medaglia d'Oro) was knocked down to Shadai Farm
for $1.45 million. Purchased for $1 million at this sale one year ago, the
six-year-old mare is carrying her first foal to Distorted Humor on a March 2
cover. She was part of the Taylor Made consignment.
C. S. Silk scored her signature win in the Grade 1 Just a Game in 2011, but
she also garnered the Grade 3 Arlington-Washington Lassie and the 2010 Addison
Mallery at Saratoga. Five times stakes placed, she made the frame in such
contests as the Grade 1 First Lady, Grade 3 Delta Princess, Grade 3 Endeavour
and Grade 3 Locust Grove.
Retired with a mark of 26-7-5-2, $780,396, C. S. Silk was initially a
$120,000 Keeneland September yearling purchase. She is a half-sister to Grade 3
victor Remember Sheikh (Sheikh Albadou) and to multiple stakes winner Memory Tap
(Pleasant Tap). They are all out of the stakes-winning Remember the Day
(Settlement Day), who also factors as the second dam of Grade 3 heroine
Victorina (Delaware Township).
Also going for $1.45 million was LOVE THEWAY YOUARE (Arch), upset winner of
the Grade 1 Vanity Handicap on June 16, who was snapped up by My Meadowview.
Consigned by Hartwell Farm, agent, the four-year-old racing or broodmare
prospect was cataloged as Hip 107.
Love Theway Youare placed in the Grade 2 Hollywood Oaks last year and in the
Grade 1 Santa Margarita Invitational in March. Since surprising in the Vanity,
she has been unplaced in both the Grade 1 Hollywood Gold Cup and Grade 1
Zenyatta last time out September 29. A $24,000 RNA as a Keeneland January
yearling, she sports a 21-3-1-3 mark and $372,990 in earnings.
Love Theway Youare was produced by multiple stakes heroine and Grade 3-placed
Diversa (Tabasco Cat), who is in turn a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Luftikus (Meadowlake)
and multiple French Group 3-placed stakes victress Sensitivity (Blushing John).
Also in the immediate family are Grade 2 scorers Saint Anddan (A.P. Indy) and
Street Sounds (Street Cry). Love Theway Youare's third dam is multiple Grade
1-winning millionaire Sabin (Lyphard).
Grade 1 scorer HOT CHA CHA (Cactus Ridge) also breached seven-figure
territory when selling to Yoshida for $1 million. The six-year-old mare, who has
yet to produce offspring, is in foal to Kitten's Joy on a March 3 cover. Hip 84
came from the consignment of Dapple Stud, agent.
Hot Cha Cha landed the Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup, Grade 3
Pucker Up, Grade 3 Bourbonette Oaks and Grade 3 Mint Julep Handicap, and her
eight stakes placings include the Grade 1 Beverly D., Grade 1 Spinster, Grade 2
Churchill Distaff Turf Mile and Grade 2 Jenny Wiley. Almost a millionaire, she
amassed $998,552 from a record of 19-6-3-5.
Out of the Broad Brush mare Reduced Sentence, Hot Cha Cha hails from the
family of champions Inside Information (Private Account), Smuggler (Unbridled)
and Kona Gold (Java Gold), multiple Grade 1-winning millionaire Educated Risk
(Mr. Prospector) and influential sire What a Pleasure (Bold Ruler).
Grade 1 Spinster heroine IN LINGERIE (Empire Maker), who RNA'd for a bargain
$22,000 as a Keeneland September yearling, would have sold for 100 times that on
Monday. But the racing or broodmare prospect failed to reach her reserve,
despite attracting a top bid of $2.2 million. The three-year-old filly was
offered as Hip 86 by Bluewater Sales, agent.
In Lingerie had her greatest success on Polytrack, defeating older distaffers
in the Spinster and streaking to a six-length decision in the Grade 3
Bourbonette Oaks. But she was also capable on dirt, as evidenced by a victory in
the Grade 2 Black-Eyed Susan and placings in the Grade 1 Alabama and Grade 1
Coaching Club American Oaks. In Lingerie made a tough turf debut in last
Friday's Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf, where she was beaten 4 3/4 lengths in
ninth. Having just begun her racing career in January, she has bankrolled
$712,265 from her 8-4-2-1 line.
Stakes queen PONCHE DE LEONA (Ponche), whose son Mucho Macho Man (Macho Uno)
came up a half-length short in Saturday's Breeders' Cup Classic, was another
prominent RNA for $1.4 million. In foal to Tapit on an April 6 cover, the
13-year-old mare was offered by Blake-Albina Thoroughbred Services, agent, as
Hip 131.
