Friday’s Grade 1 turf stakes at Belmont Park have attracted all-star fields, including competitors who’ve gone very close in the past two editions of the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G1).

Jockey Irad Ortiz turned around a tough Kentucky Derby Day in the Churchill Distaff Turf Mile (G2), steering Fluffy Socks to upset favored Spendarella.

On paper, Gainesway Stable’s homebred Spendarella was the one to beat in Saturday’s Del Mar Oaks (G1). On the Del Mar turf itself, her class edge was only magnified, as the 6-5 favorite romped in extravagant fashion.

Another sensational Royal Ascot is in the books. With sunny skies making for good-to-firm going, the tricky soft-ground variable was eliminated, and the results were generally logical.

Day 4 of Royal Ascot brought many fine performances, but arguably none as impressive as the Coronation S. (G1) victory posted by Inspiral.

The most impressive winner on a stakes-packed Saturday afternoon at Gulfstream Park was arguably Speaker’s Corner in the Gulfstream Park Mile S. (G2).
