Chasing Tails Stables' Starship Truffles pulled off a 3 3/4-length win in Saturday's Grade 1, $350,000

Princess Rooney Handicap on Calder's Summit of Speed card. The Marty Wolfson trainee easily held even-money favorite Judy the Beauty to second while finishing six furlongs on the fast main track in 1:10 2/5 under jockey Edgard Zayas.

Starship Truffles broke on top but found herself tracking the opening split of :21 1/5 set by Costly while three wide. She quickly moved up to take over approaching the quarter-pole and drew off in :44 3/5 and :57 1/5 while withstanding the game rally of

Judy the Beauty.

Sent off the 8-1 fifth pick in the 12-distaffer field, Starship Truffles paid $18.60, $7.20 and $5.40. Judy the Beauty was best of the rest, 2 1/2 lengths clear of My Pal Chrisy, while Holiday Soiree completed the top four under the wire. Sweet Cassiopeia

came next, while finishing out the field were French Politics, Centrique, Givhans Ferry, Oh Carole, Spectacular Sky, Capitalism at Risk and Costly. Reneesgotzip was an early scratch.

Starship Truffles earned her first graded victory in this spot, which boosted her lifetime earnings to $433,035 and improved her line to read 14-2-2 from 24 career starts. The four-year-old daughter of Ghostzapper has now captured eight of her last 11 races,

including the Claiming Crown Glass Slipper to close out her 2012 campaign and the Musical Romance on April 20 at Calder.

Bred in Kentucky by Sanford and Irwin Goldfarb, the bay filly sold for $11,000 as a Keeneland September yearling and in 2011 brought $22,000 as an OBS June two-year-old in training. She is the first black-type scorer out of the stakes-winning Not for Love

mare Bobbie Use. Her third dam is Grade 3 heroine La Reine Elaine, who is a full sister to fellow King's Bishop mare La Reine Rouge. The latter is known as the dam of Grade 3 victor Green Alligator, Grade 1-placed multiple stakes queen Lucky Lavender Gal and

multiple Grade 2-placed La Ville Rouge.

La Ville Rouge would gain fame in the breeding shed by producing ill-fated Kentucky Derby star Barbaro, and this female family also boasts Grade 1 victress Emma's Encore and multiple Grade 2 hero During.
