Tattersalls July Sale set to begin

Last updated: 7/6/09 6:10 PM

Tattersalls' mixed July Sale starts Tuesday morning in Newmarket with the

first-day emphasis on proven and potential breeding stock, including drafts from

many of the top bloodstock operations.

Among the established mates is Lot No. 174, the 11-year-old UTMOST (Most

Welcome), who was bought by agent Grant Pritchard-Gordon for 11,500 guineas at

Tattersalls in December, but is likely to show a healthy profit when reappearing

for sale through the Castlebridge Consignment covered by Oasis Dream (GB). Her

son Utmost Respect (Danetime) has won this season's Duke Of York S. (Eng-G2) and

Greenlands S. (Ire-G3).

There is a three-in-one package with Lot 158, who is offered by the executors

of long-standing breeder Rex Mead. She is the dual stakes winner RIPPLES MAID

(Dansili [GB]) and is for sale with both a Compton Place covering and Bahamian

Bounty filly foal at foot. Lot 99, STREET STYLE (Rock Of Gibraltar [Ire]), is a

winning three-parts sister to Garden City S. (G1) winner Luas Line (Ire)

(Danehill) who cost 280,000 as a yearling

and is offered with a Moss Vale (Ire) covering from Lady O'Reilly's Castlemartin

Stud.

Lot 163, PIVOTTING (Pivotal [GB]), is an unraced half-sister to Moyglare Stud

S. (Ire-G1) winner Necklace (GB) (Darshaan) consigned from Meon Valley Stud with

an Oratorio (Ire) cover. Meanwhile, Lot 456, RIVALRY (Medicean), is an unraced

three-year-old half-sister to Britain's top stallion Pivotal offered by Cheveley

Park Stud.

A juvenile filly is likely to be one of the standout horses in training. Lot

596, JEANIE JOHNSTON (One Cool Cat), has won and finished a close second in the

Empress S. at Newmarket for trainer Karl Burke since the catalog's publication.

Trainer Jim Bolger's draft on Thursday night includes Lot 608, recent

Limerick stakes winner ARD NA GREINE (Galileo [Ire]), and Lot 607, the

progressive VIA GALILEI (Galileo [Ire]). Lot 653, Group 1-placed MEDICINE PATH

(Danehill Dancer), has not run since being a beaten favorite in last season's

Sandown Mile (Eng-G2). He is offered from Peter Chapple-Hyam's stable, as is the

improving EXCEPTIONAL ART (Exceed and Excel), Lot 657, and part of the annual

dispersal by owner Matthew Green.

Lot 357, six-year-old TAMAGIN (Stravinsky), heads to the sale on the back of

a heritage handicap success, his 10th career win, at Windsor on June 27.

This year's 732-horse catalog is a day shorter and 183 lots smaller than the

2008 edition.

"We've got a slightly smaller catalog this year, but there's no shortage of

quality," Tattersalls's marketing director Jimmy George said. "There is plenty

to appeal to buyers from around the world as well as the domestic market, both

flat and National Hunt. Some top-class horses have come out of recent July Sales

and I'm sure that will be the case again this year."
