Travers 1864 Restaurant Week returns
More than 50 area restaurants and eateries throughout the greater Capital
Region in upstate New York will offer special pricing and menus in celebration
of the Travers S. (G1) during the second annual "Travers 1864 Restaurant Week"
from August 21-25.
Participation among restaurants in this year's equine-oriented, epicurean
event is up 25 percent over last year.
During the five-day event, diners have the opportunity to indulge in a
three-course meal at participating Capital Region restaurants for the prix-fixe
cost of $18.64 (may not include tax, gratuity and beverage), the year of the
inaugural running of the Travers, the oldest major stakes race in the country
for three-year-olds.
The area-wide culinary offering will take place in the days leading up to the
142nd running of the $1 million Travers on August 27 at Saratoga Race Course.
"Travers 1864 is one element of a community-wide celebration in honor of our
biggest and most historic race," New York Racing Association (NYRA) Vice
President and COO Hal Handel said. "We're thrilled to have Travers 1864
Restaurant Week return for a second year to usher in the social and sporting
event of the summer season, the Travers Stakes."
