John Oxley secured a son of Violence for $500,000 at Tuesday's second session of the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Fall Yearling Sale at the Newtown Paddocks in Lexington.
Consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency and sporting Hip No. 542, the February 15 Ontario-bred, the session topper is out of Witch's Coven, a Grade 3-placed daughter of Cuvee.
Cary Frommer was the winning bidder on an Into Mischief colt at $270,000. Brookdale Sales, agent, consigned the gray as Hip 506.
Out of Well, by Well Decorated, the February 23 Kentucky-bred is a half-brother to multiple Grade 2 winner Kobe's Back and the Grade 3 scorer Well Spelled.
Bringing $250,000 from Holly and David Wilson was Hip 383, a Medaglia d'Oro colt offered by Brookdale, agent for Jack Swain. A May 14 Kentucky-bred, he's out of the Woodman mare Sweet Tune, making him a half-brother to Grade 2 winner Miss Ella.
On Tuesday, 237 yearlings sold for $8,415,000, an increase of 17.5 percent over the second session in 2016 when 251 horses sold for $7,162,700. The session average was up 24.4 percent, from $28,537 to $35,506, while the median rose 20 percent, from $10,000 to $12,000.
Halfway through the four-day auction, 467 horses have sold for $14,894,500, off 3.7 percent from last year when 497 yearlings had brought $15,469,100 through two days of a three-day sale. The average, however, is up 2.5 percent, from $31,125 to $31,894, and the current median is $11,000.
