A new chapter in Virginia racing occurs this weekend when Colonial Downs plays hosts to a special three-day meeting, anchored by a repositioned $500,000 Virginia Derby and $250,000 Virginia Oaks on Saturday.

Road to the Kentucky Derby alumni took center stage in Saturday’s $500,000 Virginia Derby (G3) at Colonial Downs.

Churchill Downs announced the 2024-25 Road to the Kentucky Derby on Friday, with a couple of key changes to the schedule of qualifying races for the May 3 classic.

The upcoming Colonial Downs meet will feature record daily average purses in excess of $600,000, along with six more racing days and an enhanced stakes schedule, the New Kent, Virginia, track has announced.
