Xaar colt tops final day of Tattersalls
Tattersalls Ireland's September Sale ended on a high note Thursday when Bobby
O'Ryan went to 78,000 for a son of Xaar. Michael Dalton's Broguestown Stud
offered the son of Order of the Day (Dayjur) from the family of champion
sprinter Star de Naskra as Hip 589, and it was the bloodstock agent O'Ryan who
got the better of John Fretwell.
Diamond Racing Ltd secured the top-priced filly of the session when paying 38,000 for Grennanstown Stud's Hip 654, by Desert Sun (GB) out of a half-sister
to two stakes performers.
Despite a drop in average overall, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony was
upbeat on Thursday.
"To post record figures for aggregate and median, a record average on the
premier day, as well as a record price of 160,000 for a filly is obviously
pleasing," he said. "There has also been a great buzz and we have welcomed a
number of new buyers to Tattersalls Ireland throughout the three days. The sale
has improved significantly in recent years and with continued investment in our
facilities and services we look forward to building on the success of this
year."
