Yearling colt goes for 80,000

to lead Irish session

Tattersalls Ireland's September Yearling Sale got underway at Fairyhouse

Tuesday with a son of Sahm, from the Castlebridge Consignment, topping the

proceedings. It was Frank Barry who signed the docket after a successful bid of

80,000 for Hip No. 151, whose page boasts

several U.S. black-type performers including She's a Lively One (Lively One), El

Prado Essence (El Prado [Ire]) and Perfect Spy (Geiger Counter). Trainer Kevin

Prendergast has a soft spot for the deceased Shadwell sire, thanks to the

exploits of his stable stalwarts Mustameet and Red Moloney, and he will be in

charge of the bay.

"I haven't got anyone for him at the moment, but I just thought that he was a

very nice horse and there was a lot to like about him," Prendergast said. "The

sire has been very lucky for me, and let's hope he will continue the run."

Barry had earlier paid 52,000 to secure

the top-priced filly of the session from the draft of the Tarry family's

Islanmore Stud. Hip 37, a daughter of Cape Cross (Ire), is out of Midnight Line

(Kris S.), third in the 1998 Epsom Oaks (Eng-G1) and heroine of the Long Island

H. (G2) the following season. Her second dam is the disqualified 1991 Fillies'

Mile (Eng-G1) first-place finisher Midnight Air (Green Dancer).

"She is out of a mare who was high-class on both sides of the Atlantic,"

Barry said. "I have bought her for an existing client."

Con Marnane, who has been doing the sales circuit over the past few weeks,

went to 65,000 to secure Broguestown Stud's

Kheleyf colt consigned as Hip 26. He is out of Marju Guest (Marju), a sister to

the group-placed Dance Clear (Ire) and half to the dam of the 2006 Rose of

Lancaster S. (Eng-G3) winner Mulaqat (Singspiel [Ire]).

"For me, he was one of the picks here today," Marnane said. "He reminds me a

lot of Khor Dubai (Kheleyf), who I sold to Godolphin at the breeze-up sales this

year and has won twice since then."

There are no comparisons with 2007, as the sale has been cut from three days

to two, but the clearance rate suffered at only 66 percent. Selling was to

continue Wednesday.
